Frequently Asked Questions
IS COUNSELING RIGHT FOR ME?
If you’re asking the question, the answer is probably “yes.” In the grand scheme of things, counseling requires relatively small investments of time and money. And when you consider the many positive benefits of improved mental, emotional, and relational health, the potential return on investment is significant.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM MY FIRST SESSION?
The primary purpose of your first session is for you and your counselor to get to know one another better. Your counselor will explore the reasons you’ve decided to pursue counseling, and will help you process what you’re hoping to get out of the counseling experience.
HOW FREQUENTLY WOULD WE MEET?
Most clients choose to meet every week, while some opt for every-other-week. Your counselor will help you think through the best option for your particular situation.
HOW SOON CAN I EXPECT TO SEE CHANGES?
Change is a life-long process with any of us, but it’s not uncommon to start feeling different after just a few sessions. There tends to be something powerful about taking that first step and truly inviting someone into your story.
HOW MUCH DOES EACH SESSION COST?
Rates vary based on the counselor and session type. If you send us a short message summarizing the kind of help you are looking for, we’ll respond within 24 hours with the best option for you and the relevant costs.
DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?
Two of our counselors—Kelsey Abiera and Lindsay Brooks—are paneled with Blue Cross Blue Shield. Our other two counselors—Kevin Elliott and Pat Froelich—operate within a private pay model. If you’d like to dialogue further about the pros and cons of each approach, just send us a message and we’ll gladly walk you through it.
HOW DOES PAYMENT WORK?
Our client portal takes the friction out of payment processing. You provide your payment info when you sign up for your first visit, and then you’ll be automatically billed the day after each session thereafter. Our clients love this system because it ensures that payments do not distract from the relationship being formed and the work being done.
CAN I STOP ANYTIME?
Yes, you can choose to suspend services at any time and for any reason you deem fit.
DO YOU DO VIDEO COUNSELING?
We do. Improvements in online communication tools and internet speeds make video sessions a very feasible option for many clients, especially those who reside outside of Champaign and Chicago.
DO YOU DO GROUP COUNSELING?
Yes, we’ve helped a number of families and church leadership teams through some tough situations and would gladly do so again. If you’re a business leader looking for help with your team, we’d suggest you check out our sister company— Untapt Consulting.
